We catch up with Eddie Flynn who this time is dealing with a killer jury – Th1RT3EN by Steve Cavanagh

TH1RT3EN – the blurb

To your knowledge, is there anything that would preclude you from serving on this jury?’

Murder wasn’t the hard part. It was just the start of the game.

Joshua Kane has been preparing for this moment his whole life. He’s done it before. But this is the big one. This is the murder trial of the century. And Kane has killed to get the best seat in the house. But there’s someone on his tail. Someone who suspects that the killer isn’t the man on trial. Kane knows time is running out – he just needs to get to the conviction without being discovered.

My name’s Joshua Kane

Those who follow Book Social will know we read our first Steve Cavanagh last year, rather confusingly starting at book number 5 in the series. Not to be deterred we have continued with book number 4, TH1RT3EN, where we already know the killer’s name – Joshua Kane and he’s already in the Court room for the murder trial. Brilliant, case solved!

Except no, it’s not. As Cavanagh’s ingenious twist proves. Kane isn’t in the dock, he’s on the jury and nobody else knows that this sick, highly intelligent, serial killer has the verdict he wants all sewn up. He has just one problem, Eddie Flynn the defence lawyer with a dodgy past and a need to help the innocent, no matter what the cost.

It’s all on trial

As with Fifty Fifty Cavanagh (and Eddie) really shine when the case comes to trial. The knowledge of the American justice system is acute yet delivered in a swift, easy to understand way. You know so much about the killer already you would be forgiven for thinking it’s just a case of reading to the end. Yet You’d be wrong. There is still so much more going on here, including several twists and several sensational bits of evidence. There are quite a few deaths and if it were true Kane would no doubt be one of the World’s most notorious serial killers, yet suspend belief for 350 pages and you are in for a real treat. I can’t wait to read book number 3!
