Textures in the Trees – Getting Ideas from Pinterest

By Pattyhankins @PattyHankins

On my recent trip to Georgia and South Carolina I did a lot of photography that was outside my usual comfort zone. Instead of photographing flowers and a few landscapes – I photographed a wide variety of subjects. I looked to my boards on Pinterest for inspiration for subjects to photograph. As I looked at my Pinterest I realized I’ve pinned an awful lot of photos of trees – many of the photos are close-up/detailed photos of bark or textures in the trees.

While I was exploring the Wormsloe Historic Site in Savannah, Georgia I spotted some trees that had all sorts of neat textures – and instead of just looking at them and walking past – I stopped and started photographing. I got some neat photos – nothing I’m thrilled with to the point where I’m ready to start making prints to sell of them – but something a little different than I usually photograph.

I’m not sure where I’m going with this series of photos – but I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more interesting textures in the trees as I’m out photographing this year.
