Symptoms of Early menopause

Women in their mid 40’s experience a lot of symptoms related to their reproductive organs. Experiencing symptoms is a normal process which is onset by the changing of body’s hormones. Menopause is a condition that occurs naturally to every woman. It typically starts at the age of 45 or beyond. Menopause is not a sudden occurrence but it takes a period of 4 to 5 years in a woman’s life. During these years of menopause women experience symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, headaches, and much more. Some women also become susceptible to ovarian and uterine cancer if there is a hormonal imbalance.

What happens during menopause

  • A woman’s monthly menstrual cycle is regulated by the hormones and estrogen mainly. After an age of 45 the body stops producing estrogen by gradually reducing it. However in some women who have had a history of hormonal imbalance menopause starts much early in age. Such women start experiencing the symptoms of menopause in their 30’s itself. Here are some of the symptoms that you should look for an early onset of menopause:
  • Sudden changes in your menstrual cycle. If you have had regular periods a condition like menopause will alter the dates and time taken for the periodical cycle to come.
  • Absence of menstrual periods is another sign of menopause. During its onset a women may not get her periods for 5 to 6 months. Sometimes she may even experience excessive bleeding or lack of blood.
  • Increased amount of cramps in the abdomen region indicates onset of menopause. These cramps occur even you do not have your menstrual cycle. Also some women feel a subdued pain in their ovaries. Some even notice a slight swelling in their lower abdomen.
  • Experiencing hot flashes during the nights is one of the classic symptoms of onset of menopause. Do you wake up with sweaty hands and feet during nights? If the answer is yes then you should visit a gynecologist to evaluate if you are entering menopause.
  • Women also experience metabolic changes during menopause. There will be a sudden weight gain or weight loss which is unexplained. These changes are brought in by loss of appetite or excessive hunger. The hunger patterns may be irregular as well.
  • Some women experience heart palpitations, stress, depression and anxiety caused due to the hormonal imbalance. All these symptoms are coinciding with several other conditions. It gets very confusing to diagnose a cause like menopause with such symptoms.
  • Anemia is also a common symptom of menopause. If you have been healthy for the most part of your life but are experiencing lack of interest and vigor or if you are tired most of the time you should get a hormone test done.

Menopause is a physiological condition and it is not a disease like most women think. It is similar to pregnancy where body’s hormonal balance changes. In this biological process women would need to take care of themselves by taking supplements. Hormonal imbalance causes several kinds of deficiencies in the body. This also includes calcium and iron deficiency.
