Surviving the Holidays Gluten-Free

By Nutrisavvy

Cutting back on gluten? No worries! These days gluten-free baking mixes are more widely available. So you don’t have to skip holiday treats all-together. You just have to know what to look for. Many GF products promise good health, but contain a lot more sugar than you’ve bargained for (and may even contain unhealthy additives).  If it’s got more than 5g of sugar per serving, skip it because chances are you’ll be adding in more sugars (and that includes your wholesome fruit) when preparing it.

Here are two gluten-free products I’ve tested and approved!:

Mac-n-Mo’s !

Mac-n-Mo’s Morselicious Mixesare perfect for a gluten-free, and low-sugar treat. They contain no refined sugars or additives — simply wholesome, heart-healthy ingredients. If you prefer a packaged treat, you can enjoy the pumpkin cranberry morsels available at Erewhon and Lassens. The morsels contain only 1 g of sugar, are certified kosher, vegan and sodium-free. Mac n Mo’s Maura Knowles has been featured in Where Women Cook and her product was recently endorsed by Authentic Self-Wellness.

Pamela’s Products – check this out!:

Pamela’s Pancake and Baking mixes are another great option. They are gluten-free and contains only 3g of sugar per serving. Like Mac-n-Mo’s, this mix is so adaptable. You can easily use this mix to whip up delightful pumpkin spiced cookies or muffins for a harvest themed party or potluck. Below are some yummy banana nut muffins that I adapted from their muffin recipe on their package. To make it a sweeter treat, I added semi-sweet chocolate and unsweetened coconut. For a Halloween-treat, I simply topped them with a simple homemade Pumpkin & Spice Cream Cheese spread instead. And of course, heart-shaped is a perfect treat for your Valentines Sweet-heart.
