Rejecting Inspector General Sindh Fayyaz Laghari’s request to give 15 days for the arrestment of Shahrukh Jatoi, the Supreme Court has given the January 10 deadline to arrest the prime accused of Shahzeb Khan’s murder.
Resuming the hearing of Shahzeb Khan Murder case on Monday, the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed dissatisfaction over the police report in regard to the case saying the culprits should be arrested within three days and if the concerned authorities fails to do so, all responsibility will be held IG Sindh.
Police, who in the previous hearings insisted that Shahrukh Jatoi is still in Pakistan, for the first time confessed that he had traveled to the United Arab Emirates under a different name.
DIG Shahid Hayat told the court that a police team will leave for Dubai today for the arrestment of Shahrukh Jatoi, adding the Interpol has also been contacted to arrest the accused.
During the previous hearing on Friday, Supreme Court remarked that concerned authorities should be ready to give up their jobs if they failed to arrest Shahzeb Khan’s murderers in the 24 hours.
Police swung into action immediately after that and arrested Siraj Talpur, another high-profile accused in the case, along with his three mates, Sajjad, Imdad and Ghulam Murtaza.
The bank accounts of the accused had been frozen and their passports were cancelled upon the direction of apex court.
Shahzeb Khan’s assassination resulted from a small argument he had with Nawab Siraj Talpur, when the latter’s servant harassed his sister. Siraj Talpur and Shahrukh Jatoi allegedly followed Shahzeb and gunned him down near the Country Club.
Meanwhile, the hearing of case has been adjourned till January 10.
