Sunil Narine wins ICC Emerging Player of the Year Award
Sunil Narine, the West Indies off-spinner, has won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year for 2012 at the ICC Awards ceremony in Colombo.
The 24-year-old Trinidadia vanquished Australia’s James Pattinson, Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal and New Zealand’s Doug Bracewell to clinch the exalted Award. He was the top choice of the 32-person voting academy.
Sunil Narine claimed 12 wickets in three Tests for West Indies at an exceptional average 31.50 and bagged 28 scalps in 15 one-dayers at an average of 18.82.
“I think this has been the best 12 months for me and I just keep adapting the best as possible,” said Sunil Narine after collecting the Award.
“I need to digest this and [take things] one step at a time and enjoy every minute that I play. This award means a lot for me and it’s an encouragement to keep going and continue to improve. I dedicate this award to my father who kept pushing me.”
Sunil Narine’s compatriot spinner Devendra Bishoo was the winner of last year’s Emerging Player of the Year Award.
