Sunday Salon — Mother’s Day Edition

girl and mother on sky lift in 1969

This was the next summer when I was 7. Clarksville, the town just south of Louisiana on the Mississippi, had a sky lift up to a bluff with an amazing view and a cheesy fake Western town. I wish I had that dress!

Happy Mother’s Day, if you are one or have/had one! Here’s the obligatory photo of my mom and me. It’s hard to believe she’s been gone almost nine years. Rick and I were just talking about how much we miss my parents. Time heals and memories help, but the hole is never completely filled. So, if you’ll be seeing your mom today, give her an extra hug from me.

Time: // 8:09 am.

The scene: // It’s raining with some rumbling thunder, but the landscape suddenly turned very green!

Listening to: // My Happy Calm playlist on Spotify. This play list always makes me feel good. It starts with a humorous instrumental version of “You Can’t Always Get You Want,” moves through a bunch of fun classical pieces, and ends with a couple of Scott Joplin rags.

Reading: // I finally, after three months, finished Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson! Help me decide whether to keep reading that series or move on to other things, like the rest of the books on my England reading list.

Watching: // We watched Wilby Wonderful this week — Rick saw it, streaming, a couple of months ago but thought I would like it, so he requested the disk. Wilby Wonderful is a quirky, dark, small-town comedy from 2004 featuring a pre-Juno Ellen Page and a terrific performance by Sandra Oh.

Blogging about: // Don’t miss the photo of me and my volleyball team, 1978. The approach of Mother’s Day got me thinking about Title IX.

Participating in// A real-life author event — the YA Dark Days Tour with Kelley Armstrong, Kiera Cass, Danielle Paige, Kimberly Derting.

What are you up to this fine Sunday?
