With technology it has been easier for anyone to become a musician of some sort. This has helped the singer songwriters become somewhat of a household name. I have to say these people are the ones I love to listen to because there is a raw emotion there and you and hear it in their voice and almost every song is something I can relate to.
Now you are probably asking why am I talking like this…well one day I was checking my email and Amanda Blide from LaFamos emailed me telling me about this singer/songwriter named Sunday Lane. She is a classically trained pianist (which when you listen to her music you can tell that) who writes her lyrics on society, young love and growing up. If you are a fan of the CW show One Tree Hill you might have heard her music featured in two episodes. She made her debut with the EP called Bring Me Sunshine. She has then released a full-length album called From Where You Are. I had the pleasure to listen to the whole album and I have to say this is my new favorite artist.
The album starts off with a song called “Get To You”. This is a good example of how an album should start off. She starts it off with the vibe that she is a singer/songwriter by the piano starting off the song. There isn’t music for instruments through out the whole song. The piano (driving force in the behind the whole album), drums, guitar, bass, and her amazing vocals. This song is also very fast pace which also catches my attention and makes me want to keep on listening. This is a must get song off the album.
The next song keeps up that fast pace with “Little Too Young”. I have to say I relate to the lyrics a lot. The one line that stands out to me when she sings is “Little too young to feel this old”. That is so true. I have done so much which my life and I act a lot older then my age that I say this to my self a lot. I couldn’t help but laugh when I hear this song and start singing with her.
As you keep listening to the album all of the songs blend together very nicely…then you get to this one song called “Painted Blue”. This song just screams all of her emotion she put in it and it’s a song a lot of people could relate to. This is a song I can see helping a very emotional scene in a movie or tv show. The chorus of the song is amazing on how she gets louder when she needs to be. This song you can hear the string instruments as well. They are very well placed and sound like they fit in with her and the piano. This is another must get song off the album.
“Light Up” is the song that follows this…this song has almost the same feeling as the previous song but it is a little bit more up beat. It’s a good follow up to the previous song.
The finale song of the album is called “Slowly”. It’s a good way to end the whole story of this album. It just her and the piano and together they are perfect.
I say this is a good way to end the album because it’s slow where the start of the album is fast. The song in a way is saying good-bye.
There are a lot of good things about this album that makes it one you need to have. As I listen to this she reminds me of a young Sara Bareilles or Missy Higgins. I see big things happening for this artist so be on the look out.
I am also starting a star system when I review albums!!! This album is a 4/5.
I have below a few music videos she has of her songs so you can get a feel for her.
