Summer Maternity Wear That Will Keep You Cool

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

Hi All,

How beautiful is Britain when the sun shines, warm sunshine, cool breezes and plenty of green spaces to enjoy the weather. It has, however, gt me thinking bout how hard it must be to keep cool when you are carrying round an extra person. As i haven’t done this before, I have to stress that I am guessing at how hard it must be to keep cool, but what with swollen ankles and the little bundle of joy in your tummy it must be hard work.

So for today’s post, I am looking at how you can style yourself in the summer in order to keep cool and also be comfortable. I world personally take hints from the current trends, but go off piste so to speak – think comfort as number one and the rest is secondary.

Maternity Jeans

Over the past few months I have started to wear jeans again, mainly because I have just discovered how versatile they actually are. So I have decided to start with maternity jeans. There are so many style available, skinny, straight legged, flares, that summer jeans are tricky to pick. What I have found out though, is that when choosing maternity jeans for the summer the same rules apply. Light weight and light colours all the way.

The straight legged jean is a great example of on trend styling, that will keep you cool and are able to be turned up when you need a bit more of an air to skin ratio. Pick jeans with a high cotton content and ripped legs or even cropped, as this will add a little more breeze.

This pair of maternity jeans at Blossom are perfect for styling for the office, home and comfortable enough for plenty of give and movement.

The best bit about starting with jeans is that there is so much choice for your top half, you can buy plenty of strappy tops or kaftans to change your look from day to day.

Pastel Colours

Black is out for summer, trust me it is simply too hot! The great news is that pastels are in and look set to e around for the next few months. The lighter shade will only help to keep you cool and if you get the right cut, may even be wearable for after the baby has arrived.

One look I am really loving in maternity wear this year is belted dresses. In general they are in a 50′s style cut, but you can get tube style dresses for those days when you want to show off your beautiful bump. This Grecian goddess gown is perfect for holidaying abroad this year – or if the British weather decides to stay with us for more than a week. It is floaty and fun, with the slight belting that just accentuates your bump with ease.

Floating Vests

I am absolutely obsessed with woven vests this season. They look stylish, cool and accentuate your bump by gently floating over it, really fun and great for keeping you cool. There is a multitude of colours and styles out these for you to latch onto. I personally love a bright floral in the summer, but if you are using them to double up as work wear, then you may want to opt for a plainer color.

I love this spots and stripe version as it is just fun! Great for hugging your beautiful curves and perfect for teaming with leggings and espadrilles.
