Last night we slept into a real motel (Munger Moss – a must for the Route lovers, but in my opinion a little bit too old). Neon lights and nostalgic atmosphere. It was like being catapulted into a film of the 60′s. We drove 300 km from Springfield to Lebanon stopping only at St. Louis (Missouri). Here the relationship with the river is strong and acclaimed. As well as the intense and well designed green created to host one of the most interesting contemporary monuments that I’ve ever seen. The “Gateway to the West” in a real and metaphorical meaning. An arch of 192 m height. It starts from green to get to the sky. Its light color reflects and mirrors the clouds. It blurs and blends. Climb in the mini cabin for 5 people and reaching the sky, suspended in the middle of the arch to observe the horizon is really a unique experience.

Ieri sera siamo arrivati in un vero motel (un must per gli amanti della route, ma a mio parere un po’ troppo vecchio). Luci al neon e atmosfera nostalgica. Sembrava di essere catapultati in un film anni ’60. Abbiamo guidato per 300 km da Springfield a Lebanon fermandoci solo a St. Louis. Qui il rapporto con il fiume è fortissimo. Così come il verde intenso e ben disegnato creato per ospitare uno dei più interessanti monumenti contemporanei che io abbia mai visto. Il portale verso l’occidente. Un arco di 192 m di altezza. Parte dal verde per arrivare in cielo. Il suo colore chiaro riflette e specchia le nuvole. Si confonde e mimetizza. Salire nella mini cabina da 5 posti per ritrovarti in cielo, sospesa nella mezzeria dell’arco ad osservare l’orizzonte ê davvero una esperienza unica.
