Hi All,
As you may know, I have bee in my new job now for 4 month – sorry little pause for celebratory clapping – and I wouldn’t change it for the world! To write for a living is the ultimate job for me and it was a long time coming too. Now I have started to question my work wear wardrobe, ok so I don’t have to wear a suit, but if I ever have a meeting or I go with my boss to an event, i will need to consider how my curves will work with classic tailoring.
I have never been one to wear the humble suit – mainly because I don’t know HOW to wear them, especially when looking at the fact that the majority of suits are not tailored for women with my broad shoulders and hips. So I have been on a mission to find separates that can work as an all over, head to toe, look and here are my findings and tips that will help you too.
The Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt is the perfect choice for ladies, like me, who have a classic hour glass figure.. I have a small waist, with broad hips and thighs; so ultimately I want something that will accentuate my small waist but cover up my problem thighs as I certainly wouldn’t want to show them off in a meeting – think my boss would be happy about that as well!
This skirt is perfect ad it is black, a color staple for work wear, but adds in some fun with this bright,, vibrant band. Now, as you know I love my patterned clothing, but for this look I would avoid busy pencil skirts – there are many around at the moment and the patterns will add pounds onto you, which is not what you are going for. So stick to plain, block colours or vertical lines to help elongate your legs.
I have picked this color block skirt s it also has the yellow panel just bellow my knees – if it was above, then I would avoid as this would only accentuate your knees and lower thighs. Team with a yellow blouse and accented accessories to bring out the coloured tailoring.
For your blazer, I always stick to the rule of being pulled in at my smallest point – just under my bust. For hourglass figures I always stick to single breasted jackets to keep my nicely tucked in at just the right spot.
The Flares

I love to bring in small, or large, hints of the classical and these trousers are possibly the best example of suit flares I have ever seen – slightly excited now!
Flared trousers are great for pear shaped, hourglass shaped and even apple shaped women, due to the bottom balancing larger hem, they will not only balance your curves, but even enhance them in a good way. If you are apple shaped, go for a low waist band, as a high waist band will cut you off at your waist. I also love the color of these trousers – the burnt orange hue will take me from summer to autumn perfectly ad can be accented against other colours such as blues, greys and even yellows.
When picking a pair of tailored flare trousers, I always look for a front seem, such as the one on this pair. This helps to make my shorter legs appear longer, whilst also minimizing my curves – they are literally SUPER trousers!
Mix and match the colours and styles of blouses, even adding a cardigan for less formal work. I think I have made my point!
