Rescue and emergency teams have kicked-off their services soon after the blast
At least 22 people were killed and 50 others injured in Rawalpindi on Wednesday when a suicide bomber blew himself up near a mourning procession near Imam Bargah Qiasar-e-Shabbir in Dhok Saeydan area.
The deadly blast come hours after two back-to-back bomb blasts near an Imambarghan in Korangi town area of Karachi killed 5 people and left 18 others injured.
The eye witnesses told that the around 3,000-4,000 mourners, leaving nearly-located Imam Bargah Qisar-e-Abu Talib in the form of a procession, on their way to Qisar-e-Shabir when the suicide bomber suddenly entered into the procession and detonated the explosives strapped to his body.
The dead and injured were rushed to the District Headquarters, Holy Family Hospital, and Benazir hospital, where some injured are said to be in critical condition and death toll is feared to climb.
The explosion caused power outrage in the area due to which the emergency teams faced difficulties in rescue services.
The police and law enforcement agencies cordoned-off the spot of the blast immediately and recovered a hand grenade from the area.
Tension prevailed in the area after the blast and the Shia community chanted slogans against the poor security measure taken by the government.
Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, MQM chief Altaf Hussain, along with other political leaders have strongly condemned the blast.
The President and the Prime Minister have sought reports on the incident from concerned authorities.
