Suddenly Literally Running for Your Life. Boston Marathon

By Nicoleao @momfever

I’ve been enjoying all the post about preparing for the Boston Marathon, even though I never participate in any races myself.

But I love the comradery between the bloggers/runners, telling each other they’re doing well and to believe in themselves. So I knew the preparations had come to an end, and it was time to reap the benefits from all those months of training.

But when I started my computer this morning, the first thing I saw was a headline saying: ‘Terror at Boston Marathon: 3 dead 144 wounded.’
‘Wait a minute!’ I thought. ‘That’s not right! This is a happy, running event!’

But the headline was true.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to suddenly literally having to run for your life, at what is supposed to be a happy running event.

My heart goes out to all of you.

I found this saying by Fred Rogers very comforting:

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mothers’ words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.

And I saw a lot of helpers!
