I have been writing several culture-related articles lately, so I thought that it would be a good idea to alternate with something more lightweight and visually appealing, for a change!
I am one of those people whose appearance pretty much reflects their personal interests and passions in a way that much of it can be read by a knowing eye, projecting a clear idea of what I am about (I guess that would make me an objective work of art, according to Gurdjieff, ha ha).
The widening of my scope in both literature and art, which happened at the beginning of this year, is starting to get reflected in my aesthetic choices. Mysticism, the occult, eastern philosophy and the obscure fringes of reality are an increasing influence on my mind and style.
This is a list of the things that are a regular part of my inspiration now:
Multiple ear piercings
This is one of those things that I have been wanted to do for ages, but I keep postponing it because piercings take a goddamn long time to heal for me, and just to think of going through the agony of dealing with an unhealed piercing for almost nine months or so is off-putting. Currently, I only have three lobe piercings and my right tragus pierced. However, I love the way multiple ear piercings look, especially when the jewelry combination is well coordinated. I find that they always add a little extra charm and a touch of unexpected eccentricity to someone’s otherwise sober appearance.
Game of thrones/medieval-inspired hairstyles
Braids always add a nice touch to a hairstyle, making it look like you put a bit more of an effort on your appearance. If you learn how to do French and Dutch braids, they can make your hair go from shapeless to high-maintenance looking and elegant in under 10 minutes. And by getting a little bit creative, you can experiment with all these medieval-looking, Game of Throne-ish hairdo’s, that have just the right balance between looking feminine and badass (just ask Daenerys Targaryen).
Growing my hair long and healthy
I am currently trying to grow my hair really, really long. Two years ago I had almost waist length hair, until some dimwit in Mexico interpreted my "cut ten centimeters off" instruction as "please cut at least half of my hair's length, butcher the ends so it looks like you didn't put any effort in the cut, and then style it like an 80s TV News presenter, please." To say that I was upset about it is an understatement.
I've been trying to grow it since then, but it just happens that my hair sucks and the crappy Berlin water doesn't help (it makes the hair dry, heavy and difficult to handle due to high salt and mineral content). Currently, my hair is just long enough to cover my boobs, and that is the point where the ends start looking ratty, no matter how much serum and argan oil I treat them with. I am currently taking a biotin + zinc supplement and eating a lot of oily fish (salmon and sardines) and avocado to see if that can help the cause. Any suggestions on how to grow long, healthy hair would be deeply appreciated!
Why do I want to have crazily long hair? Why, so I can pull off those cool Game of Thrones hairstyles to maximum effect, of course! Also, really long hair stylizes one’s figure, making one look taller and slimmer.
Bold, tough-looking statement pieces mixed with sweet/girly elements
This is something that I have been doing for ages. As a teenager, for example, I would wear spiky bracelets/chokers lined with lace, lacy hair accessories with skulls on them and heavy metal t-shirts with puffy, feminine skirts. I saw this editorial a few weeks ago and I thought it was brilliant (I wish I could pull off hair like that!):
Cool New Rock boots + Feminine dress combo.
I even have almost the exact same boots! So I can’t wait for the weather to be a bit more permissive so I can start wearing lacy dresses in combination with those badass boots that would make Gene Simmons proud.
Eccentric over the top round shades

Minerals
The other day, looking at my stuff, Guitar Güero asked me: Are you turning into a Hank?
Me: What? What’s a Hank?
This Hank:
“They are not rocks, Marie! They are called minerals!”
It all started with my trip to Mexico last December. Just like everywhere else, the healing crystal mania and other new agey beliefs were in full bloom in my hometown; you could find beautiful crystals and minerals everywhere, for low prices. So, I revived my childhood dream of having a mineral collection and started stocking on this beautiful objects:
Also, I recently discovered Feral Strumpet’s Etsy Store, and was immediately captivated by the designs offered there. All their pieces are inspired by the occult, the magickal and the mystical, with a good dose of folklore and fantasy. I got this beautiful crystal-quartz pendant adorned with a little garnet and a crystal:
In Mexico, I got this ring for an unbelievably cheap price. It is a one of a kind, artisan made ring with small unpolished moonstone and jadeite beads:
A hint to the Mystical
I think my current reads and personal research subjects are starting to hit my looks and style as well. Guitar Güero doesn’t share my enthusiasm for this one, but I really like this sweatshirt printed with Alex Grey’s artwork:
Also, as a bookmark for my reading material, I got this beautiful piece adorned with a dangling pentagram and a small spider charm, also from Feral Strumpet:
Cute septum rings
Finally, I have been toying with the idea of changing my simple septum piece for something a bit more special. I mean, I have the piercing and I like it, so I might as well make it look amazing. All of these seem like good options:

That is all for now... now, back to the world of Science. Have a great week everyone!
Tschüss!
