Stranahan’s Diamond Peak Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

Aged for at least 4 years, Stranahan’s Diamond Peak is the drink of choice for their Master Distiller, Rob, after a long day at the office – and I can see why. Aged for 1-2 years longer than the regular Stranahan’s it has a character that’s deeper and a fuller body that gives it more character all around. It’s one I think would be phenomenal at Cask Strength. In fact, I know it would be.

Stranahan's Diamond Peak

At the Stranahan’s Cask Thief festival we got to taste their 10,000th barrel (called the 10,000 Dollar Bill) straight from the cask. Aged for 4+ years and going from cask to glass it was the purest expression of what Stranahan’s is doing… and it was great. I ended up buying a bottle of it and now I’m wishing they’d release more like that. Maybe in a special edition or something like that… hint hint.

Stranahan’s Diamond Peak Review: OVERALL

I remember having this when it was first released and I thought “yeah, it’s ok”, but now it’s older and that age has made a significant impact. I got to sip on some of the Stranahan’s Diamond Peak in the barrel warehouse while doing a Stranahan’s distillery tour and it showed magnificently. I was shocked at how far it had come since the last time I tried it and that opinion still holds tasting it at home.

The aroma is rich and fruity with a strong malty sweetness and the palate is the same, but oilier and denser than the aroma. It’s overall quite elegant and delightful on the senses and I can see why it’s Rob’s go-to whiskey. Even at 47%, it has a nice sense of depth and body; truly well executed.

SCORE: 87/100 (B+)
