Stop Littering the Sea! Hentikan Pencemaran Laut!

By Hendra @tukangminggat

Take nothing but pics, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but the time

Before discussing this, let’s take a look at this short video…

Sebelum berdiskusi, mari sama-sama kita simak video singkat berikut ini…

Have you ever thought that the plastic bottle you left on the seashore when picnicking or the cigarette butt you throw away on the sea will endanger the sea and its biota?

When I was on my holiday in Puerto Pricessa, Philippines, I saw a huge warning sign for littering the sea sanction. There are some phase of the punishment. These written sanction is indeed come into force and all who breach it will be apprehended, even by its society. Funnily, it could not be applied in my own country. No matter how huge the warning sign, both tourist and the society around does not really care.

As noted in the video above, most of the garbage that littered both on the waterfront and in the sea is made of plastic. Do you know that the plastic trash will not decompose? The plastic will just continue to float on the surface and eventually piled up millions of tons in a spot called the Garbage Patch

Plastik itu hanya akan terus mengambang di permukaan dan akhirnya menumpuk hingga jutaan ton di beberapa spot yang disebut sebagai Garbage Patch. in the video above, most of the garbage that littered both on the waterfront and in the sea is made of plastic. Do you know that the plastic trash will not decompose? The plastic will just continue to float on the surface and eventually piled up millions of tons in a spot called the Garbage Patch.

Several risks could be caused by plastic garbages according http://www.seeturtles.org/1128/ocean-plastic.html:

  • Sea turtles and other marine creatures mistake plastics and other garbage as food (such as jellyfish) and ingest it. This mistake causes blockages within their digestive system and eventual death.
  • Plastic toxins end up in fish, which end up on our plates, which end up inside our bodies.

So, will you still litter the seashore or the ocean?
