Still by Macy Gray.

I came across this song about four years ago when I started watching the 1998 television drama, Felicity, starring Keri Russell, Scott Speedman, and Scott Foley. It was featured in the third season episode, “Let’s Get it On”. The scene itself and the song go very well together, it describes an abusive relationship that a woman is struggling to get out of. The scene featured Felicity’s roommate, Molly, who was meeting her boyfriend to breakup with him. He was addicted to drugs and also dealing, she had started using drugs as well. She wasn’t able to end it  right away but she eventually entered rehab and cut off contact. However, he got really angry and during a Christmas party at the dorm, he brought a gun and attempted to kill her. She was not injured but two others were, though both characters survived. He went to jail and she decided to return home to England. Dramatic story, but things like this are probably happening everyday to someone in the world.

Still was released as a single in May of 2000 from her debut album, On How Life Is. Though it didn’t make Billboard’s Hot 100, it managed to take to #32 on Adult Top 40. It went to #8 in New Zealand and #18 in the UK.

If you’re interested in seeing the scene from Felicity, you can watch it HERE. Go to the 1:25 mark where you’ll see Ben (Speedman) watching nearby to make sure nothing bad happens as she attempts to end it for good…
