Stella 34 (in Macy's) is a place friends have been touting since it opened a year ago and without thinking we invited our favorite Bolognian friend and his dynamic duo pal from Oxford. For those of us in our third age who grew up in New York, it's startling - nifty, white and gleaming - all in a building I recall as dingy and stuffy.
All of us had eaten well today so we went spare, with a pizza with ramps (which our two European colleagues had never had); a Napoli salad with parmesan (Parma eh?), prosciutto, salami and great salad greens; and pork belly with beans and chickpeas. All were outstanding.
Our bill with two bottles of our Italian friend's recommendation - the Primitivo - and Castello De Blasio Water, was $185.09 before tips.
Go? Certo.
