Stay the Night by Benjamin Orr.

Posted on the 03 October 2013 by Melodicwisdom

Benjamin Orr was a member of the popular rock band, The Cars, until their break up in 1988. He was the voice behind their hits, “Just What I Needed” and “Drive” among others. In 1986, he released a solo album called The Lace which features today’s song.

This entry and today’s date are no coincidence. Today marks 13 years since Benjamin passed away at the age of 53 from pancreatic cancer. As fast as the cancer came, it took him away and the world lost a talented and gorgeous man.

I always seem to stumble upon musicians and actors that inexplicably captivate me and then I find out they’re not even here anymore. Something all too common, even as a child that I could never figure it out. Maybe it just proves that the best ones, the most beautiful (inside & out), are those that will continually catch people’s attention long after they’ve gone.

Above is the official music video for Ben’s single. He and his girlfriend at the time, Diane Grey Page, wrote the lyrics. It was released in late 1986 and charted at #24 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1987.

I hope you’re at peace, Ben…wish you were still here. <3
