Moonstones are one of June’s birthstones. The other two are pearl, and alexandrite. The moonstone gets its name from the way it changes, just like the moonlight on water. Pliny, in ancient Rome, thought it actually did change with the phases of the moon and it was thought to bring health, wisdom, and victory. In India it is considered a sacred stone and cherished as home for a spirit who will bring good luck.

The gleams of light reflecting in the moonstone’s depths come from rare geologic occurrences of large clean mineral grains in a family of silicate minerals called feldspars.
