Malcolm Betts, born in Surrey England in 1964, was just 16 years old when he visited Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and soon after expressed interest in becoming a goldsmith. He attended a course at Mid-Warwickshire College for two years and then had a great love and interest in working with precious and non-precious metals. After this, he attended an art foundation course, then a 4 year jewelry course at Middlesex Polytechnic which is where he achieved his first class BA Hons degree. After eight years of training and studying his craft, he completed his Master of Arts at the Royal College of Art in London in 1989, and opened his workshop in Islington.

It was as Islington that he created his designs and first worked with precious metals in conjunction with precious stones such as diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and rubies, thanks to a Crafts Council grant. His designs were contemporary and innovative.In 2001, Betts opened his first showroom in Notting Hill, London and offers an original jewelry design service to his clients. His pieces are always made by hand with Platinum, 18 kt and 22 kt gold, and then finished with his signature style, the hand beaten finish.
