Janina Gavankar and Sam Trammell/Luna Garza and Sam Merlotte/HBO/True Blood
In true, True Blood style the Season 6 premiere of HBO’s True Blood on June 16 opened with the death of Luna(Janina Gavankar) girlfriend to the beloved Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell).
Though when we realized that Luna was going to die it was a sad moment to watch like many of the deaths on True Blood, most viewers were probably not shocked by the death of Luna. The Season 5 finale, left the viewers thinking that Luna would likely die, after all, we know how the story ended for Sam’s brother (Marshall Allman)when he went skinwalking…Nevertheless, it is always terrible to watch a character die, especially one that is a mother to a young child!
For Janina she is happy and feels fortunate that her character lasted as long as she did, “I really thought I was going to die in the beginning” she told TVGuide.com, “I was so thankful that they would even want me around for two years. It’s been an awesome experience.”
In the world of True Blood Janina said:
“No one really dies in True Blood land,” recalling a conversation with True Blood director Scott Winant, who noted that he had killed off Godric (Allan Hyde) twice on the series. “There’s always a chance, but even if it doesn’t happen, it’s been a dream. I took risks with this show that I’ve never taken on any other one. When you’re a woman in this business, you’re asked to do a lot of things. You have to decide if and when you’re ever going to do it, and I’m so proud to have been able to take the risks I have with this group of people around me. It’s been a blessing.”
Life Goes On for Janina Gavankar:
Though Janina’s time with HBO’s True Blood may be temporarily, or forever over, Janina is keeping herself plenty busy on other projects! She currently plays the role of McKenna Hall on the CW’s The Arrow, as well as a role on FX’s The League. One way or another we have not seen the last of Janina Gavankar!
