From their upcoming Real Hair EP, here is Speedy Ortiz’ second single, “American Horror”.  It opens with some heavy riffage which leads way to a dissonant and angular verse that opens into a catchy-ass chorus.  It’s the kind of formula that’s all over last year’s major label debut, Major Arcana, but kept fresh with a few rhythmic oddities and some weaving guitar work.  But seriously, that chorus!  I can already tell it’s gonna be one of the best melodies of the year and it’s only January.  ”Keep me up for a whole week” is one of the lines frontwoman Sadie Dupuis sings in the chorus which is exactly what you’ll be doing trying to get over the sort of ‘gadzooks!’ effect this track has on you.
