Sony Vaio Pro 13 – Light As a Feather

Posted on the 01 September 2013 by Naveedkhan

Trust Sony to come up with an ultrabook that breaks the oomph barrier. The Vaio Pro 13 is, at the time of writing, the lightest yet… tipping the scales at a little over 1kg. A true size zero if ever there was one…

It’s got the looks

Carbon fiber chassis. Check. Hexa-shell design. Check. Precision crafted design and diamond-cut hinges. Check. Jawdropping looks. Check. Would you really blame us for going ga-ga?

It’s not just about the looks

What can you do with a machine that just looks pretty and doesn’t have the goods? The ticker inside is a fourth generation Intel Core i5 chip clocked at 1.6GHz, ably supported by 4 gigs of RAM and a 128GB SSD. The spacious backlit keyboard and the generously proportioned touchpad ensure you don’t end with your fingers all tied up in knots.

It can amaze

It peers back at you with a 13.3in, full HD IPS touchscreen – running Windows 8 in all its tiled glory. Sony’s loaded it up with its proprietory TRILUMINOS and X-Reality technologies to make sure it offers eye-searing clarity and life-like detail.

It likes to hook up

Anorexic ultrabooks aren’t known for their connectivity options, but the Vaio Pro 13 lets you get hooked up using HDMI, a pair of USB 3.0 ports and NFC. One of those USB ports lets you charge devices even when the ultrabook is switched off. An HDMI-to-VGA adapter is included in the pack, but there’s no Ethernet port, alas. You can shell out extra for a special Wi-Fi router that latches on to the power adapter.

NEED TO KNOW

At 1.06kg, the Sony
Vaio Pro is even lighter
than the 13in MacBook Air,
which weighs 1.35kg. Hardly
worth bothering, you feel?
Try lugging one around the
whole day and you’ll
find out!

STUFF SAYS

“Balancing the fine line
between jaw-dropping
looks and compelling
performance with aplomb, the
Sony Vaio Pro 13 should feel
equally at home on the ramp
as well as inside the
boardroom.”

THE FASTER BLASTER

If the model pictured above doesn’t rock your boat, Sony offers another variant that ups the ante with a Core i7 processor and 256GBs of SSD storage.

THE LITTLE ONE

Looking for a more travel-friendly option? The Vaio Pro 11 comes with an 11.6in screen.
