Sony Japan has recently distributed a press release which shows a new tablet (or e-reader) with a flexible E-Ink display. The device is designed for students who want to take quick notes during lessons and comes supplied with a stylus.

The tablet, which for the time being is just a prototype, features an E-Ink display with a size of 13.3 inches and a resolution of 1,200 by 1,600 pixels. This display should allow comfortable reading and ensures a long battery life. Sony indicates that the display is flexible, but it is not clear to what extent. The whole device is only 6.8 millimetres thick and weighs 385 grams. The only image that Sony has published displays tablet featuring four buttons at the bottom and a holder for the stylus on the right.

The prototype has 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card reader, WiFi and a battery life of at least three weeks when not using the Wi-Fi function. The stylus can be used to operate the specially developed software for the device, taking notes and making annotations in PDF files.

For the time being, the tablet prototype is used for testing purposes on a number of Japanese universities. The device may appear on the market late this year or early next year.
