Posted on the 25 February 2014 by Anna Peterson

Along with a new tablet and the budget-friendly Xperia M2, Sony unveiled its first flagship of the year yesterday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona – the Sony Xperia Z2.

Sony released the Xperia Z2 yesterday at the MWC.

The Z2 is 12 grams lighter than the Z1.

In terms of design, the Z2 looks quite a bit like its predecessor, the Xperia Z1, but it has a larger 5.2in full HD (1080p) Triluminos display that Sony claims has the best color reproduction of any phone on the market. Thanks to the Live Color LED tech, the colors provided are much brighter and more consistent than on the previous Xperia models. You’ll be able to purchase the Z2 in black, white or purple.

On the inside is the latest 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, backed by 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which you can expand with a microSD card. The 3,200mAh battery (non-removable) should get you 690 hours (2G) and 740 hours (3G) of use on stand-by, and up to 15 hours of 2G or 19 hours of 3G talk time. The Xperia Z2 runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, that’s been customized by Sony, and has IP58 certification, which means that it’s dust and water resistant.

On the Xperia Z2′s back is a 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor that can shoot 4K videos (2160p). It also comes with some new features, such as 120fps slow-motion shooting, Background Defocus and augmented reality options.

When it comes to connectivity, the Sony Xperia Z2 brings GPRS, microUSB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, LTE and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will most likely be launched in March in Europe and will cost between € 599 and € 699, depending on the country.
