Son Of A Peat Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug
Created deep in the labs of Flaviar from whiskies covering all of the Scotch regions except Campbeltown and Lowlands, Son Of A Peat is a blended malt that packs more than just smoke. The inclusion of malts outside of Islay bring additional nuances and experiences to the whisky that double down and enhance the underlying notes. Son Of A Peat Review

Not only is this tasty, but it's a decent value too... which is why it sold out in just a matter of days. This sucks because you and I can't pick up batch 02, but we shouldn't fret. Because the next batch is just around the corner and now we know to keep an eye out for it. So, let's dive into this peaty scotch whisky review and see why we should watch for batch 03.

Son Of A Peat Review: Details and Tasting Notes

BATCH 02 is a worthy successor to the original Son of a Peat. Slightly improved original DNA expands and evolves the taste to new heights. The essence of Islay, Islands, Highland, and the Speyside trickled down the cooling pipes to be reborn as a complex peated maelstrom. Another commanding Whisky that sparks the love for peat in the kilns of our hearts.

Son Of A Peat Review: Overall and Score

As pleasant as can be. The aroma reminds me of Caol Ila but with more dried fruit across a crisp malt and honey profile that gets a bit ashy as it opens. Palate is fun and tasty and develops a light medicinal character as it opens and reads a bit as Laphroaig. The finish is a nice balanced fade of smoke and sweetness.

Son Of A Peat is an easy drinking glass of Islay. It's a delicately blended malt that brings together many of the aspects of Scotch that we love. All of which expand and deepen as it opens; where, slowly, some herbal and minerally notes creep in making it even more interesting and inviting. I'm digging it quite a bit and looking forward to grabbing a bottle of Batch 03 when it arrives.

SCORE: 87/100 (B+)
