Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own by U2.

It’s hard to believe that this song is nearly a decade old.  I heard it on television today and had nearly forgotten about it. Once again, I start to think of my high school years.

Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own was released as a single in February of 2005 from the band’s eleventh studio album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. The lyrics were written by Bono as a tribute to his father who died of cancer in 2001. He first performed the song at his dad’s funeral.

The single received mixed popularity only taking the #1 spot in Canada, Spain, and United Kingdom. It went to #97 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #15 on the Top 40. Despite these varied chart placements, it won them two Grammy awards in 2006.

Above is an acoustic performance.
