Something Happened on the Way to Heaven by Phil Collins.

I don’t really like long song titles, it makes things look too crowded. Maybe this song could have been “Way to Heaven” or does that sound too religious?  I guess the title could have been “How Many Times Can I Say I’m Sorry” which isn’t much better. I know, what about “Believe in Me”?? That sounds like a Phil Collins track name right? I think so!

Something Happened on the Way to Heaven was released in July of 1990 from his fourth solo album, …But Seriously. It went to #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #2 on Adult Contemporary. It was also charted well in other countries including #5 on Netherlands Top 40 and #9 on Ireland’s singles chart.

The song is very upbeat based on the subject matter of a relationship that is on the rocks. The man did something to hurt the relationship, though there is no indication as to what it was. All we know is that he has apologized multiple times and wants her back in his life.

I only wanted someone to love but something happened on the way to heaven. It got a hold of me and wouldn’t let go…and I want you back, how many times can I say I’m sorry?
