Of all the things I love making in a slow cooker, pork shoulder has to be my favorite. The moist, low and slow heat of a slow cooker was meant for tough cuts of meat like pork shoulder. Smothered in a flavorful marinade and cooked until melting tender, my slow cooker carnitas are a thing that dreams are made of. Luscious fall-off-the-bone pork, flavored with garlic, onion, orange and spices; doesn't that sound amazing?

Slow Cooker Carnitas

One 4-5 pound pork shoulder
1 1/2 tablespoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/4 cup orange juice
5-6 garlic cloves
3/4 cup diced onion (about 1/2 an onion)

Place the pork shoulder into the slow cooker, then cook on low for 8-9 hours or 6-7 hours on high. When it's done, remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker and shred it with 2 forks. Remove any bones, cartilage and fat.
