Good morning! Are you like me and entering that slightly frustrating phase of ‘is it too early?”.
This year I plan to grow more cutting flowers on the allotment and have packets of seeds I am desperate to start off. However, with limited window space and no heated greenhouse, I need to hold back and wait a little longer. Everything catches up in the end, that’s my theory anyway.
In the meantime, I am running out of goodies to photograph for my regular Six on Saturday and it’s raining AGAIN this morning – it must stop soon surely!
1. Iris Reticulata ‘Pauline’
‘Pauline’ started to say hello a few days ago, sadly the flowers fade very quickly. Whilst still in flower they are such a fabulous color.
2. Iris Reticulata ‘Frozen Planet’
‘Frozen Plant’ was a new one for me and is looking very pretty. This is the first one to flower with lots more in bud.
3. Crocus ‘Firefly’
I have planted lots of crocus bulbs in my various patio pots and noticed this morning that this is the first crocus bud. ‘Firefly’ has soft lilac to pale violet flowers with a yellow tinge.
4. Crocus ‘Cream Beauty’ and Iris Reticulata ‘Clairette’
One of my larger containers was planted up as a lasagne with tulips, narcissi, iris reticulata and crocus. As you can see, it is full of Crocus ‘Cream Beauty’ and Iris reticulata ‘Clairette’ yet to flower but not long now. I covered it with an upside down hanging basket to prevent the squirrels from digging up the bulbs.
5. Snowdrops
My plan to have a large drift of snowdrops under the hedge just outside the flat isn’t as successful as I had hoped. After 3 years, I still only have two snowdrop plants. One is already over. You will see that there are more crocus coming up. I bought rather a lot at the end of last year!
6. Hellebore
I don’t know the variety of this Hellebore, I bought it from a local independent nursery who had lots of small Hellebores just labeled by their color. This one was under the ‘White’ sign. Its still quite small and in a pot in my patio table. I will plant it out into the main garden later this year.
I’m hoping that as the weather warms up the choice for Six on Saturday will be greater, until then hop over to The Propagator blog where you can see what he and the contributors to Six on Saturday have to show for this week.
