We are 🎼 “Having a Heatwave” 🎼 – sorry I hope you don’t have that song going around your head all day, like an ear worm! I went out at 10:00 to take photos and it was already 35C on my patio, I really can’t cope with the heat so no gardening for me today unless it cools down considerably.

It’s a pink Six on Saturday today.

1. Pelargonium

Six on Saturday 08/08/2020

I have no idea what variety it is, my daughter’s neighbor gave her one and one for me earlier this year. Her plant is in the flower border and growing like a shrub. Mine is in a container on my patio and already about 60cms (2ft), it’s a bit of a beastie but covered in lovely pink blooms.

2. Dianthus

Such a good little work horse and great value. Several are in the border and this one is part of the patio pots display. As long as I remember to deadhead the plants they continue to flower for quite some time ahead.

3. Gladioli

The stems of this beautiful gladioli are flowering at different times. Although there are lots of flower stems, they are not in sync, as one dies off another opens. It spoils the show in my opinion. I suppose if I cut them as they grew I wouldn’t have a container of fresh and old flowers, but I would like to have seen a breathtaking display of lots of gladioli flowers all at one time. Despite them not getting their act together, they are an absolutely fabulous color.

4. Begonia ‘Angelique’

No apologies for showing this plant again. I just love the apple blossom shades and it is covered in flowers giving it a well deserved pride of place at the front of my patio. Apparently it has a fragrance but it’s so mild you have to really put your nose into the blooms.

5. Antirrhinum ‘Snapdragons’

Six on Saturday 08/08/2020

You can’t have a garden without snapdragons can you! A kind neighbor gave me a tray of seedlings earlier this year. It’s a good old-fashioned cottage garden plant. This pink one is so pretty and really stands out brightening up the border.

6. Snowberry

Six on Saturday 08/08/2020

This shrub is growing as a hedge border between us and next door. When I read up about it, a lot of information describes it as low growing ground cover and some websites say it can grow to 1.5mtrs. Clearly there are lots of varieties. This hedge is about 2mtrs, but it has been left to its own devices for many years, although it does fill in gaps during the summer months. When I went out there this morning it was covered with bees and hover flies, so definitely doing it’s bit for nature. I didn’t notice the white line on the leaf until just now, if I was being picky I would take another photo but nothing is perfect is it.

Six on Saturday is a weekly meme hosted byThe Propagator . Lots of people contribute to it so please hop over to his blog and take a look at what is growing in his garden and other gardens around the country and even abroad.
