
It’s good to treat your toddler once in a while with sweet treats. There are some treats that involve no baking or cooking. That being the case, you can get your toddler to make them with you.
Making them with your toddler is a fun way to get involved with your child and simply bond.
Here are 10 treats that will keep you wanting more:
- Mini cheese cakes – This is a fancy dessert which hardly takes a few minutes to make. Just whip together some cream cheese, cream, sugar and lime and spread them on buttered cookie crumb cups. Leave to set in the fridge for a few hours and they are ready to eat.
- Marshmallow pops – Attach marshmallows’ to kebab sticks and dip in melted chocolate or peanut butter and then roll in the desired topping of nuts, sprinkles or chocolate flakes.
- Ice cream sandwich – Sandwich a slab of ice cream between two cookies or readymade cake slices. Pop into the freezer for a few minutes to set. This is a sinful treat which even adults find hard to stay away from.
- Chocolate dipped strawberries – Simply dip strawberries in melted chocolate and serve with whipped cream. Kids actually enjoy the dipping process and it’s a nice way to get fussy kids to eat fruit.
- Jelly and fruit pops – Make mini popsicles of jelly and even crushed berry juice, or any other fruit juice that you can think of.
- Berry compote – Simply top up ice cream with a berry and sugar topping. Let the berries remain whole.
- Greek Yogurt with honey and nuts – Form layers of Greek yogurt, honey, berries and nuts. Kids will love digging into this visually appealing dessert.
- No bake cookies – There are many cookies that don’t require actual baking. These are great to make when you’re feeling super lazy. Make a mixture of instant oatmeal, cocoa powder, butter, milk and sugar. Microwave for a few minutes till the sugar melts. Make into the desired cookie shapes. Leave to set in the freezer for few minutes on wax paper.
- Granola Bites – Mix together instant oatmeal or rice krispies with corn syrup or honey, along with nuts or sprinkles. Roll into balls and leave to set in the fridge.
Interesting variations can be made to granola bars by Adding crushed peanuts or peanut butter or even chocolate chips.
- Truffles – Make dough by mixing your favorite crushed cookies with condensed milk. Roll into balls and you dust with cocoa powder or desiccated coconut or powdered nuts. Again, you can choose to add more ingredients in the actual dough to make it healthier such as dates or raisins. Don’t forget to adjust the moisture in the dough accordingly, so that they don’t become too sticky and difficult to roll into shape.
- Mousse – Fold in beaten egg whites to sugar and melted chocolate. Set in individual greased cups and serve. This is the simplest way to make this dessert.
- Coconut snowballs – Roll tiny balls of ice cream in melted white chocolate, and dust with desiccated coconut. Freeze and serve when set.
- Smores – This old fashioned snack is an all time favorite. One simple no cook method is to melt chocolate with butter in a microwave. Stir in marshmallows to the hot chocolate mixture. Now spoon this mixture between graham crackers and your yummy snack is ready.
- Chocolate bar fondue – Kids love dipping their treat into molten chocolate. So melt that bar of store bought chocolate in the microwave for a few seconds and let your kids dunk their cookies and other treats to find out the combination they like best.
The key to kid no bake snacks is to be innovative, think out of the box. Use your kids favorite snacks such as Oreos, cheerios or any other cookie, nuts, peanut butter, jam’s, marshmallows’ and chocolate to make something that is out of this world.
