There is great power in numbers. Just ask the Chicago-based band Sidewalk Chalk. The powerhouse octet comes together to formulate fresh sounds derived from a mixture of genres. The group looks exactly like the epitome of diversity, and their sound is just as diverse as they appear. They’ve created a Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, and Soul fusion that includes an emcee, mellow vocals and keyboards, groovy bass and drums, a vitalizing brass section, and even a tap dancer! If you like 4hero, Jazzanova, or Digable Planets, you’ll want to give them a listen. This eclectic band prides itself on their live show, which ought to be something to see. They dropped their debut LP in 2012, titled Corner Store and just released a video for “Birds of a Feather”, the first track from their album. The vibe of the video is as chill as the track, as the group gets together through music to have a good ol’ jam sesh.
