Shrewsbury: Powys Castle and Attingham Park

By Bertyc @bertyc
Spending some time in Shrewsbury, a couple of places have become favourites. If you're ever in Shropshire and in need of some outdoor time, I recommend Powis Castle or Attingham Park. If you're in Shrewsbury and need a bite to eat, I recommend Eat Up.
Powis Castle was recommended by Glyn Jones, the Head Gardener at Hidcote Manor, who tweets at @Dalechampia and was happy to give me advice about gardens and National Trust sites to visit in Shrewsbury.
Powys is a short drive from Shrewsbury and is a lovely day out. The castle is great but the real gem is the garden. Although we went in March, there were a few signs of spring, especially in the greenhouse. I'm really looking forward to visiting again in the late spring or summer when the gardens will be in full bloom. There are also some roaming peacocks and plenty of deer in the wider park. Lovely!
Attingham Park is even closer: just on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, it's a popular dog walking/family outdoor spot and is quite busy on the weekends. Another great one for being surrounded by nature, I've been quite a few times when I've been up this way.
Yay National Trust sites. Here are a few shots from around and about Shrewsbury.
