SHOPAHOLIC: Just how ‘loyal’ are your loyalty cards?

I have a ridiculous amount of loyalty cards and I rarely ever use them. When I’m at the checkout, the sales assistant asks if I’m a member.

No. I am not.

Would you like to join? It’ll only take five minutes. And your next purchase, you’ll receive 5% off.

Sure. Why not.

Alas, I don’t ever go back for my 5% discount or I usually forget that I’ve got their card in the first place.

These are some of the cards I currently carry in my wallet…

Ridiculous, right?
If I showed you the lot it would be more than doubled what’s pictured.

I rarely use my loyalty/members cards. I think of all the cards I carry, I maybe use three on a regular basis.

Not only is it annoying to have these pieces of miscellaneous plastic taking up valuable wallet space, it also clogs up my inbox with their updates that often get labelled as spam and deleted anyway.

Headache.

For months I’ve been in search of a wallet big enough to hold all my cards and when I actually found one, it was the biggest wallet on earth that it could easily pass for a clutch. A bland one, but a clutch none the less.

I’ve heard that there are apps now that act like a members card. ALL STORES SHOULD DO THIS! They do it with coffee cards and now more retail stores should follow their lead. One app with a dozen or so members cards so customers can scan in their receipts and be done with it. That way people like me who mindlessly sign up to things don’t have this problem about loyalty cards taking up so much loyal wallet space.

Or… I should just stop signing up to these things. That way my wallet is clutter free and not so much of a headache.

Does your wallet suffer from the same as mine? How do you handle the clutter of loyalty cards?
