Lively instrumentals add depth to Zooey Deschanel’s signature sugary vocals on the new She & Him track, “I Could’ve Been Your Girl.” Although She & Him’s music can often go down like a lethal overdose of twee, I’m actually digging this new track. “I Could’ve Been Your Girl” is reminiscent of the Smiths, and Zooey’s romantic crooning is like a heartbroken, young female Morrissey. The indie pop duo will release Volume 3 on May 7.
