Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan all-rounder, could be considered for the ODI squad for the tour of India after initially being dumped from the same, said skipper Misbah-ul-Haq.
Shahid Afridi, who was omitted from the ODI squad following his string of below-par performances, retrieved his form during the ongoing practice matches at the conditioning training camp in Lahore ahead of the India tour and scored successive half-centuries.
“If his form remains like this and we need him, we will definitely consider him,” said Misbah on Wednesday “The form of senior players, who are experienced enough, is very important. They are seniors, whenever you give performances like this it will be good for Pakistan.”
Shahid Afridi had a turbulent World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, where he could manage to score just 30 runs in the six matches and begged just four wickets. He also came a cropper in the recently concluded Faysal Bank Twenty20 competition. .
The consistent failures and segregation was believed to have put Shahid Afridi’s ODI career in jeopardy, but his tremendous form in the one-day practice matches have dangled all such speculations. He scored 52 off 40 balls on Monday and plundered another impressive 92 off 64 balls on Wednesday.
Pakistan will play the only T20 practice match on the final day of training session on Thursday before leaving for India on Saturday.
The men in green will play two T20s and three ODIs during the hotly-anticipated tour, which will mark the resumption of cricketing ties between the bordering nations after five years.
