Senior PTI Leader Zahra Shahid Killed in Karachi

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh senior vice president, Zahra Shahid Hussain, was shot dead in Karachi on Saturday night.

The initial reports said that unidentified gunmen gunned down her outside her residence in DHA Phase IV area of metropolis.

According to police, Zahra, 60, had returned to home from somewhere when two bikers, waiting her at some distance, opened fire on her. A critically injured Zahra was being rushed to the hospital but she succumbed to her wounds on the way.

“The assailants opened fire on Zahra, 60, as soon as reached the gate of her residence. Apparently they were there to target her only”, a police official said.

The hospital sources said she was shot in head twice from point-blank range.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain strongly condemned the brutal killing of Zahra and extended his condolences to the PTI leadership, Zahra’s family, and workers on the tragic incident.

PTI Chief Imran Khan took Twitter to condemn Zahra’s killing, saying he is “shocked” and “deeply saddened”. He held Altaf Hussain “directly responsible” for the murder.

“I hold Altaf Hussain directly responsible for the murder as he had openly threatened PTI workers and leaders through public broadcasts,” wrote the cricketer-turned-politician, who is undergoing treatment in Shaukat Khanum Hospital after being fell from lifter during an electoral rally in Lahore.

Imran also held British Government responsible for Zahra’s murder, saying he had already “warned” the British government about MQM chief’s threats to kill PTI workers.

“I also hold the British Govt responsible as I had warned them abt Br citizen Altaf Hussain after his open threats to kill PTI workers”, he said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Federal Interior Minister Malik Habib have strongly condemned the murder, describing it as a “tragic incident”.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has expressed apprehensiveness over Zahra’s murder and has urged the provincial government to make the foolproof security arraignments for the re-polling on 47 polling stations of NA-250 constituency on Sunday.
