Not one to be swept away by the many tidal waves of digital fickleness, Schoolboy Q has been consistently making noise since he released his acclaimed Habits and Contradictions full-length in January of 2012. Aside from a recent and slightly mysterious excerpt from a new Schoolboy Q song which featured a Chromatics’ sample at the end of Kendrick Lamar’s video for “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe”, Q hasn’t released a new track since March so we’re a bit overdue. His most recent jam, “Hell Of A Night” leans a little more towards top 40 club music aesthetic than his previous work which was more easily related to Wu-Tang Clan’s underground weirdness than a summer radio anthem. Still, with Schoolboy Q’s trademark multiple personalities and aggressive delivery that always borders on humorous, he pulls off this new sound like he invented it.
