Savannah 1 [Orange You Glad It’s Friday]

   Earlier this month my wife and I took a holiday in Savannah, GA. It was our first visit there and we were totally charmed by this lovely city. It is full of history [although relatively brief compared to European cities] and opportunities for photography. Thus, this week I start a new mini-series based on Savannah. Briefly. when the city was founded back in the early 1730's, it was "... laid out in a series of wards in which commercial and residential buildings centered on a public square." Today, 22 of the original 24 squares survive lined with houses, and filled with oak trees, fountains and statues. The map below gives a nice overview of the layout.

The remainder of today’s images were shot on my cell phone in the Jepson Center, housed in a beautiful modern building, one of three venues that comprise the Telfair Museums [located in the 2nd row and 2nd column of the squares]. It was toward the end of our visit and we were going to walk to the museum; so, I decided that I had had enough of carrying around my backpack loaded with DSLR cameras etc. Well, that was a mistake, as there were some great opportunities, but, I did get some nice captures.
