Sapphire Engagement Ring Settings

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

You want sapphire engagement ring settings? I’ll give you sapphire engagement ring settings. It’s September’s beautiful birthstone, and I can’t get enough of this gorgeous rock. But first, an apology.

Perhaps you noticed I’ve been absent the past two weeks here on Designers & Diamonds (if you have, I love you.) More likely you didn’t but whatever, I missed four opportunities to deliver some of the bling my people want and crave, and for that I’m truly sorry. We had a minor server apocalypse on the RLJ blog and needed to sort out bugs (all hands on deck.) Now all is well and back to sparkly, shiny normal, and I can share sapphire engagement ring settings with you today.

Sapphires are a varietal of corundum, a trigonal crystal structure with conchoidal, splintery fracture, a vitreous luster, and an impressive 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness. In human, gem lover speak, this translates to “Sapphires are gorgeous, lend themselves well to a variety of faceting patterns, like diamonds look best as eye clean as possible, and are smooth like glass when polished. They’re also, thanks to the hardness, well suited for everyday wear. And what do you wear every day? Oh, a little something I like to call an engagement ring.

Sapphires are beautiful alternative to and accent to diamonds for your engagement ring. They’re romantic, and in their true blue hue (symbolizing loyalty) they’re the most popular gemstone alternative to a diamond. However, while most people associate sapphires with that inimitable blue, they come in a huge variety of colors including pink, yellow, orange, green, and more. The sapphires I’m showing off today are blue because they’re my favorite, and I love the way the cool tones of this variety balance out the bright white of DBRL diamonds and our designer engagement rings’ bright white metal. Let’s go.

First, this Verragio three stone sapphire engagement ring setting channels vintage beauty with modern craftsmanship. Two princess cut sapphires embrace the center diamond of your choice, while Verragio’s signature lace shank unfolds on either side, bracketed by rose gold diamond bands like all their Parisian collection rings. Magnifique.

Tacori nails the sapphire look with trapezoids on either side of a delicate, barely there Dantela halo. The shanks are simple from the aerial perspective, with a coating of Gorgeous, Very Sexy diamond micropave and an openwork diamond and platinum gallery and shoulders.

Another Tacori sapphire engagement ring setting, this one is decidedly Deco. Sapphires factored heavily in Art Deco design, and the diamond banded, east-west setting of .41ctw half-moon shaped sapphires creates a halo blast from the past. The knife edge, tapered diamond accents on the split shank add .28ctw of Gorgeous (go colored) Very Sexy (VS clarity) diamonds.

Now let’s check out how Gabriel & Co. do things. This octagonal halo is set with larger round brilliant diamonds that hug your center stone, plus the round brilliant diamonds that line the tapered shanks, which all add up to nearly half a carat (.46ctw of diamonds.) The sapphires are three, invisibly set sugarloaf squares stacked on either side of the halo for a totally unique look.

Another antique style look, this solitaire sapphire engagement ring setting alternates round brilliant diamonds with pear shaped sapphires in a sculpted white gold setting. The diamonds add .10ctw and the sapphires add .54ctw of sapphires.

Don’t mind me, just casually showing you the Duchess of Cambridge model. This is a platinum setting centering a 7.02 carat oval Ceylon sapphire (untreated, obv.) The round brilliant halo of shared prong diamonds add 1.88ctw of F/G color and VS clarity diamonds.

Here we have a platinum halo setting with a 2.78ct Old European cut diamond surrounded by approximately .77ctw of sapphires and .24ctw of round brilliant diamonds set into the band.

This time we set an octagonal halo with .85ctw of sapphires that surround a 2.02 carat round brilliant diamond, with another .12ctw of round brilliants set into the band.
