“We have been wanting to add handsewn moccasins to our line for several years. It took us a year to get the details and first shoes worked out, but we are now importing beautiful shoes from Brazil like my father pioneered in the 1970s.

The first shoes that I sold for Rockport, before the company even had a name, were driving moccasins. A genuine moccasin construction cradles the foot differently than a typical lasted shoe and conforms more easily to your foot. They are super flexible and light, making them the ideal travel shoe,” Bruce Katz, Samuel Hubbard’s CEO, explained.

In the early 1960s, Italy introduced a leather shoe that was crafted just for driving. Slim, minimalistic, and stylish in the way that only European footwear could be in that era, the driving moccasin was born for adventure.

Today, we’ve innovated on this classic design and they’re available in a kaleidoscope of colors. Slip on a pair, gear up for your own adventure, and follow your Free Spirit.

With over 85 years of family legacy experience in shoemaking and a lifetime of adventure informing his designs, Bruce Katz, the co-founder of Rockport, founded Samuel Hubbard to create shoes that are luxuriously handcrafted and engineered for unparalleled comfort.
