Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo, has announced that same-sex marriage would not be allowed during his presidency.

On Saturday, February 27, he made this declaration at the installation and enthronement of an Anglican Archbishop in Mampong.

As he says it

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: same-sex marriage will not be legalized in Ghana under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo.” It’s not going to happen. ‘It will never happen,’ he said to the cheers of the crowd. ” he said

His comment comes after the closure of a newly opened LGBTQ+ office in Accra, Ghana’s capital city.

The office was built, but few people were aware that it was for the LGBTQ community. The police and the landlord of the building where the office is located stormed the place and shut it down as soon as it was discovered what the office was for. In Ghana, this has sparked a national debate.
