Magical off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who was overlooked from ICC awards last year despite of being the most successful bowler of the year, has swept the bowling awards at the inaugural awards function organized by PCB.
Apart from being named in the best bowler in all three categories – Tests, one-day internationals and Twenty20s – the 34-year-old Faisalabad-based spinner also snapped up the special prize for Best Bowler of the Year.
In the six Tests he played last year, he bagged 39 wickets at an average of 20.56. He was the cornerstone of Pakistan’s Test series victory over England last year. His 24 wickets at an exceptional average of 14.70 helped Pakistan to record their first ever whitewash of then world No.1 side. He was also marvelous in ODIs and T20 in this period, claiming 31 and 25 wickets respectively. He is No.1 bowler in both ODIs and T20s.
Twenty20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez, who shined with both bat and ball across all formats throughout the last year, was named Player of the Year. 23-year-old left-arm seamer Junaid Khan was named the Emerging Player of the Year.
Swashbuckling left-handed opener Nasir Jamshed, who made a comeback to the Pakistan team last year, was named Batsman of the Year in both T20s and ODIs. Middle-order batsman Azhar Ali collected the Test Batsman of the Year Award.
