I mentioned on my previous post that there are a few things you can do in Sabang aside from the Underground River Tour. Another thing to do is to visit the waterfalls in this town.
The Sabang waterfalls can be reached by 15 to 30-minute trek from Alpuerto Resort. Before starting your hike, you need to register at Alpuerto and donate a little amount for the maintenance of the waterfalls.
Going to the waterfalls doesn't require a guide, but we (me, and my brother) met this kid one night on our way to Alpuerto. He guides us to the resort and offer to guide us anywhere we want to go. Since we don't know the place, and he didn't even demand a guide fee, we accept his offer. He guides us to the waterfalls, and provide us with a little background of the place.
We made a stop at this Buddhist temple on our way to the waterfalls. A lot of construction materials are all over the place. Apparently, it is undergoing renovations. There were part of the building left open, so we invite ourselves in, and check out the place.
You can't miss a Buddha's teachings on your way to the waterfalls. A few of these are placed on the coastline for people to read and reflect.
A refreshing water from the falls is the best reward from a 30-minute trek on a rocky beach. A few slips is all worth it. The waterfall is adjacent to the beach. If you could climb on the falls, you could see this magnificent view from above. And if you're a daring kind of person, you can climb higher than this. Though you have to proceed at your own risk. The way on top is so steep, and a bit technical. I'm pretty sure the view up there is very rewarding.
We spend a few minutes marveling at the beauty in front of us before going down. We also spend an ample time at the foot of the falls before hiking back to Alpuerto Resort. When we arrived at the resort, we take the initiative to give something to the kid for guiding us around Sabang for the entire day. He accompanies us to the Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour office, became our chaperone in Sabang Beach, and guide us to the waterfalls. So it's just fitting to give him something in return.
