Yesterday we wrote about a riddle being shared on Facebook, in which people who get the riddle wrong, acknowledge their error by converting their Facebook profile pics to a giraffe.
As quoted yesterday, according to CNN, the riddle goes like this:
“3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors. It’s your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?”
Spoiler alert! We weren’t in the riddle-spoiling business yesterday, but spoiler futures rocketed since then, so now we are.
The “acceptable” answers are “the door” or “your eyes.”
3 Riddles That Arise From This Riddle
1. What do your parents expect breakfast at 3:00 a.m.?
Answer: They just returned from a vacation to London, and just like after Madonna moved to London for a while, they now speak with British accents, and expect to have breakfast, including crumpet, on Greenwich Mean Time.
2. Why does this riddle sound like the lyrics to Rebecca Black’s Friday song?
Answer: Perhaps because it took as much time and talent to write the riddle as the song. (We also would have accepted: “Does Rebecca Black really have anything better to do these days than hire people to write riddles?”)
3. “I’m an earthworm. I have no eyes, no doorbell, no door, and I don’t even know who my parents are, since I was created by a crow biting a larger worm into two pieces. What am I supposed to do with all this cheese and honey at 3:00 a.m.?”
Answer: Get rid of the honey, ASAP and start making standard-worm-filled cheese for breakfast, stat! 3:00 a.m. may sound earlier for breakfast, but the early birds who get the worms are rising earlier and earlier these days, so the last thing you need is a stockpile of honey to have bees hunting you down, too!
