Richfield, Minnesota was named for its rich farmland back in the 1850s, when it was a farming community. But its real growth came following World War II, when Richfield became a popular first-ring Minneapolis suburb for returning war veterans in the late 1940s and 1950s.
Today Richfield is very conveniently surrounded by major highways and is next to the airport, giving it easy access to both downtowns and everywhere else. The metro area's biggest shopping areas, Southdale and Mall of America, are both located on its borders.
It should come as no surprise that Richfield has an abundance of 1940s-1950s one 1/2 story homes and ramblers... much like St. Louis Park, another first-ring suburb bordering Minneapolis on the west.
