Find out What's Next From Image Comics!

Shotgun Wedding is a 4-part series from Image Comics that is being released for four consecutive weeks in April.  Issue #1 came out this week, but I missed reviewing it due to vacation.  So, I thought I would double up on you and review parts 1 & 2 together.  Double the fun!

Shotgun Wedding is written by William Harris with astounding black & white visuals from Edward Pun.  I’ll admit, I almost passed this one by since it not a color comic, but I’m glad I gave it a second look.  The art is fantastic and it manages to pop off the page without the hint of color at all.

What’s it about?  Well, we start off four years in the past at a wedding.  Or at least, a wedding day.  We see a jilted bride to be as she finds out that her betrothed, Mike, has left her at the altar.  Now, that is enough to cause any woman to snap, but this particular woman just happens to be armed to the teeth and is looking for revenge.  Mike better watch his back.

We skip forward to present day and are introduced to Mike.  Turns out he’s an assassin who is engaged once again.  At this point, I’m not feeling to sorry for this guy.  His mission is blown and his target points the finger at a mystery woman that tipped him off.  Wonder who that might be?  We go back to the wedding day once again and see the bride, we now know is named Chloe, and we find out that she seems to be an assassin herself.  She’s following Mike’s tracks and as we jump back to present day, it seems that she has found him.

In issue #2, out this week, we once again jump around between present and past.  We get to see a mission five years ago where Mike and Chloe are captured.  Chloe must make a deal to save Mike, one that he knows nothing about, but I’m sure will have huge repercussions.  In the present, Chloe is closing in on Mike and finds out that it is his wedding day.  I didn’t in the first issue, but I’m starting to feel a little sorry for Mike.  It feels like things are lining up for him to get a major beating.

William Harms has woven a story filled with assassins, love, death and revenge.  It is complimented by great art from Edward Pun.  I’m glad that it will come out in four consecutive weeks because I don’t have to wait long for another fix.
