We are one issue away from the conclusion and things are heating up. This issue has old man Fury battling Earth’s heroes and he comes prepared.
Original Sin has had its ups and downs, but for the most part I’ve enjoyed it. The story takes several leaps into the absurd, but that’s okay. It’s a comic book after all. It has come to a point where you either love it or hate it. I’ve decided to love it. Many times in event books the big bad is someone that we’ve never heard of or they are pulled from some obscure storyline from the past. To be fair, there is still some of that here, but with Nick Fury being revealed as an outer space assassin last issue we have someone known and loved in the Marvel Universe taking center stage.
This issue finds Fury battling Earth’s heroes and using a variety of alien technology to do so. However, his greatest weapon isn’t one he wields, but the secrets he now knows. School House Rock was right: Knowledge Is Power! However, I’m jumping ahead a little, which is appropriate because this issue jumps back and forth several times. Through flashbacks, we find out exactly who shot the Watcher, but it’s not as clear as you would expect. More than one person visited Uatu that day and the fatal shot was more implied than actually shown. I’ve been around the block enough times to know that if you leave it up to interpretation like that it usually means a different reveal than what you expect. The coolest part of the story is what I talked about earlier and that is how Fury uses the secrets he knows to defeat our heroes. He takes two of them out and one definitely sets in motion events that have already been teased by the Mighty Marvel Marketing Machine. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same can be said for the other one as both of these heroes are about to go through major changes.
Original Sin has been loud, beautiful, silly, unrealistic, fun, amazing, sad and surprising. It is an event comic that looks like it will have lasting effects. Hopefully, we will see next issue if the predicted outcome is correct and Fury picks a certain soldier as his replacement.
